We also hope to use this initiative to build knowledge about refugees and humanitarianism within our school and surrounding communities. Our fundraising activities will seamlessly combine teaching components (for students), public education and advocacy activities geared at making Canada a more welcoming and supportive place for all refugee families. We were inspired by the Schools Welcome Refugees initiative and are working with local schools, libraries and community agencies on this. In particular, we want to inspire students/children to become the next generation of leaders to deepen humanitarian work in Canada, and globally.Canada has already successfully resettled 25,000 Syrian refugees. With over 4.5 million Syrian refugees, and thousands forced to flee every day, there is still a huge need for refugee resettlement. We believe that Canada and Canadians can do more. Providing a safe new beginning for refugee families here is not just good for refugee families but has profound positive impacts on Canada. More importantly, refugee resettlement is one of the best ways to promote global peace and security. So join us in this important national undertaking by donating generously to our fund and/or helping with our educational and advocacy activities. Join Our Initiative: info@swanseaWelcomesRefugees.org
We are a group of parents and friends from Swansea Community who are passionate about humanitarianism. We would like to raise funds (about $30,000) to sponsor a Syrian refugee family with elementary school-aged children. Our group will provide other resettlement supports like navigating health and other services, finding decent work, building healthy social connections -- all the things needed to succeed in Canada.
